Is FOMO costing you thousands of dollars?
What even is FOMO and how in the world could it be costing you thousands of dollars?
That is what I talk about today.
But first, let me ask you a question.
The question is, how do you as a 401k or 403b participant become a 401k superhero to your future self?
That is the question, and these videos will give you the answers. Hey, I’m Jonathon Schultheiss and welcome to the Becoming a 401k superhero videos.
So, FOMO is the fear of missing out.
Let me ask you something, have you ever looked on your social media feed and saw that one of your friends just bought something new like a new car, or a new house, or whatever, and that made you wish you had one too?
Then you started thinking about how can I get one of those?
How can I afford that?
And you actually starting thinking about borrowing more money.
That is FOMO kicking in, and you starting think about making bad financial decisions.
The best way to get your finances in shape, is to not let them get into bad shape to begin with.
One of my favorite Will Rodgers quotes is, “Too many people spend money they earn, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.”
In my book Focused, I also talk about how we often compare other people’s front stage to our back stage when it comes to finances.
Not letting FOMO lead you to making bad decisions is a great way to help you become a 401k superhero to your future self.
When you go into debt for things you don’t want or need, you are giving up future dollars to pay for something today.
Instead, if you save or invest those dollars, you a using today dollars to help you become a better you in the future.
And that is truly how to become a 401k Superhero to your future self.
