What is Financial Freedom?

It’s a term we hear a lot. But what is it and how do you asses it?

That’s what I want to talk about today.

But first, let me ask you a question. The question is, how do you as a 401k or 403b participant become a 401k superhero to your future self?

Financial Freedom is the freedom from being tied down to too many financial obligations, and primarily debt.

The lack of financial freedom in not being able to choose what you do with your money, because your money is already accounted for every payday.

In other words, if you have $5000 that comes in every month, and your bills and expenses are $4,900, you don’t have very much financial freedom.

I created the Financial Freedom Formula to help you with this. And it goes like this.
Ix – Ex = F

I is your income, E is your expenses, and F is your financial freedom.

You see, its your Income minus your expenses that equals your financial freedom. The more money you have left over at the end of the month, the more financial freedom you have.

The x’s of the formula are the things you can do that can either increase your income or reduce your expenses, which will help you increase what you have left over at the end of the month and increase your financial freedom.

This leftover money is what can help you create the financial freedom you want.

You can use it to save more for retirement or invest it.

You could pay off additional debt and increase what you have left over every month.

Or you could add more to your emergency savings. Maybe you use it to invest in yourself and increase your income.

The bottom line is that you have to live on less than you make. And doing this will not only help you create more financial freedom, it can also help you become a 401k Superhero to your future self.
